Registering for the citizenship test

Right now: registration is closed. UHR has not yet announced the next test occasion — that information will be published at uhr.se during autumn 2026. Here's how it worked for the first test, and how it will likely work next time too.

Who can register

You can only register if you've received a referral letter from the Swedish Migration Agency. Without it, you can't create a UHR account for the test.

The registration window is strict

For the first test, registration opened 8 June and closed 2 July 2026. It wasn't possible to register after the window closed — so keep an eye on the dates as soon as the next test occasion is announced.

The summons

About a week before test day, you'll receive a summons with the practical details on your UHR account. If you've registered but haven't received a summons a week before, the advice is to contact UHR directly.

Accommodations

UHR offers two types of accommodations for those who need them: adjustments to the test itself (for example for dyslexia, ADHD, or visual impairment), and adjustments to the test environment. Applying for an accommodation requires a medical certificate or similar, submitted by a specific deadline tied to registration — late applications can't be added after registration closes.

The test is free

Taking the citizenship test costs nothing. The first test was held in Stockholm; where future test occasions take place will be announced along with when registration opens.
